Dalton Ghetti (Bridgeport, Connecticut) maakt zijn potloodsculptures al sinds hij een kleine jongen was. Zonder vergrootglas of andere hulpmiddelen maakt hij de meest fantastisch gedetailleerde afbeeldingen. Hij gebruikt hierbij scheermesjes, naalden en alles wat maar scherp genoeg is.

En de hoofdprijs voor de beste vormgever gaat naar.. de natuur! 4 augustus was er een fantastisch schouwspel van Noorderlicht te zien. Sterrenkundige namen in de week ervoor een toename van het aantal zonnevlammen waar. Het Noorderlicht ontstaat als deze deeltjes onze magnetische atmosfeer bereiken. Normaal gesproken is dit verschijnsel voornamelijk te zien op de noord-en zuidpool. Maar door de extreme zonneactiviteit van die week is het effect ook te zien in andere gebieden op de aarde.

Prachtige stop motion clip voor 'Waiting' van My Robot Friend. De clip werd gemaakt door Liam Stevens. 'Made using pencil, cut paper a stills camera, a few desk lamps and some patience.'

Taiwanese kunstenaar Wei-Chieh Shih maakte een nylon pak met daarop meer dan 200 laser diodes. Het effect is verbluffend en zou niet misstaan bij een goed techno-feest.
Weetje 1: De laser bestaat dit jaar 50 jaar.
Weetje 2: het woord laser is van oorsprong een afkorting voor Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (ofwel: lichtversterking door gestimuleerde uitzending van straling)

De Belgische kunstenaar Thomas Lerooy maakt een serie prachtige bronzen beelden onder de naam 'Braindance'.
'The technique used by Thomas Lerooy, i.e. the disproportional enlargement of the head, is a typical trade mark of caricatured humour. However the result he creates, reaches much further than that of a stereotyped joke. In a highly intelligent way he plays with a number of visually contradictory propositions. By applying an almost maniacal solidity in both production and finish, as well as the use of a plinth to emphasize the artistic pretensions of the statue, he places his sculptures within the highest traditions of the sculptural art, while conversely he purposefully undermines other conventions – such as proportion, symmetry and balance. Moreover, in his hands, Thomas Lerooy moulds the monumental tradition of the sculptural art by combining a static portrait pose with captured movement, through which he creates extreme contradiction and grotesque tension. The torsos strive to represent a powerful or elegant posture, however, ultimately their poses become pathetic due to the passiveness of their busts.'

Square America is de website van Nicholas Osborn. Hij verzamelt hier oude fotografie. De meeste foto's komen van vlooienmarkten of zijn gekocht op eBay.
Eén van de schitterende thema's binnen de website is Double Takes, foto's die meerdere malen zijn belicht. Dat kon vroeger met rolletjes nog.
"80 of my best double exposures. All that is solid melts into air as Dali-esque dopplegangers cavort with ghostly ghosts. It's a Freudian field day as the camera reveals lantent desires and dreams made flesh. Simple accidents or vertiginous glimpses of a deeper reality?? You decide!"
De andere gallery's zijn ook meer dan de moeite waard om te bekijken.

'First, the cardboard, courtesy of Glen at the local Smurfit Kappa cardboard factory. He gave us a pile of reject cardboard sheet (made from recycled paper). We hoped to carve out a shape from a block of cardboard but a test showed that it didn't leave a nice finish.
So, we modified the design to use only squares, and got the rulers, set squares and Stanley knives out. We glued the 200-odd pieces using starch to ensure the card could still be recycled; sprayed it with fire retardent, and ta-da!.'

Dat er een relatie is tussen sneeuwwitje en de appel is bekend. Maar eetkunstenaar Prudence Staite van Food is Art neemt het letterlijk en maakte een aantal beroemde scènes uit het sprookje na in... appels. Ze gebruikte 14 verschillende soorten appel die ze aanvulde met divers fruit. En ze hoeft geen rechtszaak te vrezen, het is in opdracht van Disney.
